HOW To Take It: Ideally, magnesium bicarbonate should be distributed in small doses throughout the day to maximize its absorption and overall efficacy. Simply add our magnesium bicarbonate into your normal, daily water intake and sip slowly throughout the day. Always start low and slow, so start with a half dose (half of the 1 ounce or even less, and sip slowly throughout the day.

How long is a bottle of magnesium good for once opened?
We recommend consuming a 32oz bottle of magnesium bicarbonate within 3-6 months. Most of our clients and customers finish a bottle in a shorter time. The magnesium will not lose efficacy over time as long; as long as the magnesium isn’t heated or frozen. Drastic temperature changes can damage minerals.
Keeping the magnesium refrigerated after opening is recommended between a temperature of 38-50F, and will still be ok if left out at room temperature.
Should the product be carbonated?
Yes, our magnesium bicarbonate should contain carbonation. Not only is magnesium super important for our bodily function, but the bicarbonate ion in and of itself plays an important role as well!
Bicarbonate is a key component of the bicarbonate buffer system, which helps to stabilize the pH of blood (7.35-7.45) and other bodily fluids. This system involves the equilibrium between carbonic acid (H2CO3) and bicarbonate ions (HCO3-). When there is an excess of hydrogen ions (H+), bicarbonate can react with them to form carbonic acid, thus reducing acidity.
One of the remarkable features of magnesium bicarbonate is its alkalizing effect on the body. An overly acidic environment can lead to various health issues, including inflammation and metabolic disorders. Magnesium bicarbonate helps buffer acidity, promoting an optimal pH balance (Bach et al., 2016). This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions like metabolic syndrome or chronic inflammation.
In the stomach, bicarbonate ions pass almost immediately into the bloodstream in exchange for chloride ions to make hydrochloric acid (HCl). Bicarbonate water actually prepares the stomach for digestion and helps to overcome the waning production of HCl that plagues older individuals. While such knowledge has nearly disappeared from medical texts, the Materia Medica (1918 edition) had this to say about the effects of sodium bicarbonate in the stomach.

Is it safe for children and mothers (pregnant/breastfeeding/ttc) to take magnesium?
Technically, we cannot give medical advice – so first, please consult with your doctor or health care practitioner. With that being said, we have had all moms in various stages of their lives (listed above), try and use our magnesium products on a regular basis. We recommend always starting low and slow with our magnesium bicarbonate.
We recommend starting children off with our magnesium chloride bath flakes or spray. This is what we did with our son, before introducing bicarbonate. We let the moms make the choice on what age to start giving their toddlers/infants magnesium bicarbonate, but as a general guideline, we say after 1.
There is magnesium bicarbonate present in pristine spring waters, so whenever you start giving your kids water to drink that is when it would seem an ideal time to introduce magnesium bicarbonate.
